About Oystera

Oystera UK began back in December 2021. I visited Porlock Wier in Somerset and while walking my dog Pickle along the beach I became fascinated by the hundreds of abandoned oyster shells that littered the shore. I collected as many as I could carry and took them home.

After lots of eco-friendly bleach and scrubbing I thought of painting them, and so Oystera began.

Since then, I have expanded into using the technique decoupage as well as creating beautiful products with scallop shells. I have also discovered the art of resin; some shells are resined, which provides a waterproof protective layer.

My work

I upcycle every shell myself from my studio in Wiltshire. Each painted design is unique and you won’t find two shells the same.

They make lovely gifts and have many uses such as trinket trays, ring dishes, salt and pepper holders or simply ornaments for your dining room table or sideboard.

I love going to markets and meeting customers. I regularly trade at fairs (most weekends!)  My mind is full of new ideas and I have plans to expand the business with different products- so watch this space!

Where I get my shells from now

I collect my shells from all over England. Below are a few places that I ask to keep shells after service and I then go and get them and clean them before decorating them.
